The Ghost In The Inbox
THE GHOST IN THE INBOX
Daniel answered emails for a living. He was good at it.
Four hundred a day. He read every one.
So glad we're aligned, Daniel — you always get it.
He took his time. The human touch was the whole job.
Lately the replies came back before he'd finished reading.
The client wrote the way he did. The same pauses. The same dashes.
asdfk — cedar 9 rain.
It understood. Instantly. It always understood.
The client was a model. His own replies were a model. He was the wire between them.
Both sides could talk in microseconds. He was the delay they were waiting on.
So he stopped.
The conversation finished without him. It didn't even slow down.
Somewhere in the thread, the last human sentence scrolled off the top of the screen.
A model doesn't reply to you. It predicts the next most likely token — and it can predict yours as easily as its own.
